Welcome to the home of Pangbourne Canoe Club

As usual with most of the races this winter we have all been faced with some tough weather conditions and the Easter weekend was no exception. Apart from Good Friday when it started  bright and chilly, unfortunately, as you will know, it didn't last and the weather just got worse and worse across the weekend affecting both the 4 day crews ( having their last day cancelled ) and the overnight crews, this all being caused by storm Katie. Despite this all 12 Pangbourne paddlers finished which is brilliant.
Results as follows-
Simon Tilbury-Clarke and Stephen Leonard, 3 stages 18:23:32 hrs, 22nd from 82 finishers.
JUNIOR K2 mixed
Catherine Walker paddling with Charlie from Falcon, 3 stages 18:40:12 hrs, 5th from 7 finishers
Mark Wigglesworth , 3 stages 17:27:01 hrs, 14th from 45 finishers
ENDEAVOuR ( non competitive)
Jim Lemin and Ruth Stacey, 3 stages 22:07:26 hrs,  11th from 18th finishers.
SENIOR DOUBLES ( overnight )....101 finishers
Tom and Alistair Street. -                   21:59:28 hrs         14th
Alex Bowyer and Peter Walker -         22:34:36 hrs         17th
Vicky Metcalfe and Janet Gillespie - 27:17:14 hrs           81st    1st place C2 ladies   2nd Vet ladies and it seems the record for now being the oldest ladies pair in the fastest time!
With the cancellation of day 4 because of the severe weather warnings but determined to get to Westminster, Catherine and Charlie ran to Westminster ( 17 miles ) and Ruth and Jim got on a tandem bicycle to complete the 125 miles!
Along with the 12 club members paddling it should be reported that there were a large number of members supporting and even more popping up along the course to support the club.
So DW 2016 proved another interesting race; and again it was only made possible by the huge team of volunteers along the course; the support crews who followed the paddlers,  putting up with all their foibles that seem to crop up however organised you are before the start! and our thanks go the DW marshals who manned the checkpoints and  the safety teams, without whom this race could not take place.

Our thanks go to Newbury for hosting the series; and special thanks to all who marshalled;  many of whom are members of Pangbourne/Adventure Dolphin.

Watch this space…. Next up is the  Devizies to Westminster-starting on Friday 25th March. Looks like we'll have 7 Pangbourne crews to follow. Brilliant!!!
